PURPOSE
We are teachers and advocates committed to ensuring educators’ voices are front and center in implementing NYC Reads, NYC Solves, and any future curricular initiatives in New York City.
WHAT IS
NYC READS?
For decades, ineffective literacy programs left over half of NYCPS elementary schools with inconsistent instruction and deepening inequities in literacy achievement. In 2023, NYC educators united to champion a transformative vision for literacy, driving the adoption of NYC Reads—a bold step toward reimagining curricula and professional learning to ensure every student has the tools to succeed.
WHAT IS
NYC SOLVES?
With two-thirds of Black and Latino students performing below grade level in math, educators demanded New York City leaders build on NYC Reads and take further action to address inequitable learning conditions in the subject. NYC Solves, announced in 2024, aims to close these gaps by fostering collaboration, enhancing professional development, and achieving citywide equity in math instruction.
HOW WE SUPPORT IMPLEMENTATION
Educators’ voices are key to the success of NYC Reads and NYC Solves. Here’s how we’re ensuring teachers across the city have a platform to lead and share their perspectives on New York City’s major curricular shifts.
We’re asking hundreds of teachers across the city what’s working and what needs improvement in the city’s high-quality curricular initiatives.
SURVEYS
FOCUS GROUPS
We’re conducting focus groups with dozens of teachers with various levels of expertise across the city.
We’re hosting town hall meetings for educators to learn from their colleagues about navigating implementation.
TOWN HALLS
And that’s not all—we’re taking this feedback and bringing it to those in power! E4E-NY is engaging city leaders to review results, share what’s working, and highlight areas where teachers and students need more support.
